On August 27, the Life Plan Community in Burr Ridge/Hinsdale, Illinois, will officially get the ball rolling with the opening of its new bocce ball court.
Bocce is one of the oldest games known to mankind and is one of the world’s most popular sports. The premise is simple: Roll your bocce balls as close as possible to the smaller target ball, known as the pallino.
A Workout for Body and Brain
Despite its leisurely pace, bocce offers a workout for both body and brain. Players walk, bend, reach and roll while judging distances, planning shots and adjusting their strategy as the game unfolds. As a low impact activity, it encourages movement and coordination while the social nature of the game adds conversation, friendly competition and fun.
