K-B House Earns Prestigious Arboretum Accreditation

HINSDALE/BURR RIDGE, Ill. — “Many of us choose K-B House because of its peaceful setting among the legacy trees. Walking the grounds, enjoying the changing seasons, and feeling connected to nature is a daily joy,” said Dave Boxell, a resident of King-Bruwaert (K-B) House. “This accreditation supports what we’ve always known: that the beauty and uniqueness of these grounds make K-B House truly special.”

K-B House senior living community is proud to announce that it has been awarded Level 1 Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program through The Morton Arboretum. This distinction recognizes K-B House for achieving high standards of professional practices important for arboreta and botanic gardens.

The application for accreditation was inspired by the opportunity to showcase the community’s magnificent campus while highlighting its dedication to environmental stewardship, education, and the preservation of its natural beauty. The initiative was also encouraged by John Grube, president of the board of directors, who is a highly respected environmentalist, conservationist, and philanthropist.

The process, which took several months, included a detailed review of K-B House’s 35.5-acre campus, home to more than 90 taxa of trees and woody plants. The community also relied on Bartlett Tree Experts to update its tree and woody plant inventory and Tree Care Plan.

“Earning ArbNet accreditation affirms our long-standing commitment to preserving the natural beauty that makes K-B House so special,” said Rebecca Mathis, Chief Executive Officer of K-B House. “Our wooded campus is more than a setting. It’s an essential part of the life, wellness, and sense of peace our residents enjoy every day. This recognition from ArbNet underscores our dedication to stewardship, education, and the enduring connection between people and nature.”

The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. This recognition is a testament to K-B House’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the natural environment for residents and visitors.
