The Freedom and Joy of Getting It Right-At Godair Park

For Cindy and Bill Higgins and Linda and Jim Durkan, moving to Godair Park was not about choosing senior living. It was about finding a place that felt like home, in every sense of the word.

An off-site independent living option of King-Bruwaert(K-B) House in Burr Ridge, Godair Park, located in Hinsdale, is unlike anything else in the western suburbs. The community features just 31 single story, maintenance free rental duplexes for adults 60 and older, set in a serene landscape beside Ruth Lake Country Club. With walking paths, water views, and front doors that open to a true neighborhood, Godair offers the ease of one-level living in a beautiful, connected setting.

Godair is often referred to as being a hidden gem for senior living in the western suburbs. However Cindy and Bill were very familiar with the neighborhood and all the benefits of living there because her parents had been residents at one time.  After years of Cindy and Bill searching for a downsizing option that did not include major remodeling projects or multi-level living, an unexpected call changed everything. Their name had been on a marketing list from K-B House.  When one of only four Godair homes with a basement became available, they received a call. This was perfect for Bill’s many drum sets, his massive collection of tools and play space for the grandkids. In less than 24 hours, they visited it, fell in love with its beautiful setting, and decided it would be perfect. In the process of K-B House updating the unit before their move-in date, Cindy and Bill  were happy that they were able to give input into its design features. This further enhanced the feeling of this being their own home; one where they were excited to put down roots. Their longtime home in Willowbrook sold quickly, making the transition seamless.

Linda and Jim’s path to Godair followed soon after. While volunteering at the Courtyard consignment shop in Hinsdale , Linda bumped into Cindy and heard about their move. Linda describes it as “divine intervention”. After multiple downsizing attempts, including a condo that left them missing a yard and a sense of neighborhood, Linda and Jim visited Godair. They immediately noticed the campus felt warm and intentional, and the mission-driven culture of King Bruwaert House deeply resonated with Linda’s own background in nonprofit work.

“We hadn’t seen ourselves moving to a senior living community, and this doesn’t feel like one,” Jim said. “Godair feels like a neighborhood, but with the advantages of a retirement community. What really sold me was the beautiful setting, the backing of a respected organization with a long and prestigious history, and the culture. There’s so much behind the Godair concept. We have the resources, security, and amenities of King Bruwaert House, and a wonderful neighborhood.”

Both couples were pleasantly surprised by how much they value renting. Beyond maintenance-free living, renting offers freedom and flexibility. Without the pressures of ownership or building equity, they can lock their doors and leave to travel, enjoying this chapter of life fully, knowing everything is taken care of.

Just as meaningful is the connection to K-B House. Godair Park residents enjoy access to amenities, social opportunities, and the reassurance of priority access to care should it ever be needed. The backing of a strong nonprofit organization provides peace of mind and a sense of security that is rare with other rental options.

Today, both couples say they do not have a single regret. They treasure the friendships, the welcoming atmosphere, and the confidence that comes from living in a place where words are matched by action. At Godair Park, everything truly worked out exactly as it should.
